Mountain Ash, Oak Leaf (Wyoming Hybrid)

Unusual grayish-green leaves which are lobed like an English Oak.
Upright, oval shape.
White spring flowers with late summer/fall orange-red fruit.
Does not have quite as much fruit as European variety.
Thought to be fireblight resistant.
Seed from Cheyenne, Wyoming Experiment Station.
Fruit attracts birds.
The trunk should be wrapped in winter, especially when young.
Mountain Ash will not tolerate having “wet feet” and should not be planted in areas that are poorly drained.  In irrigated lawn areas, the root ball should be elevated about 2” at planting time; see specific information on our planting handouts.  Fall foliage is rusty-red.
