Ninebark, Dark Star

A rich, dramatic shrub that stands out for its deep, velvety foliage and consistent color retention throughout the growing season. The finely serrated leaves emerge dark wine-red in spring and deepen to nearly black by midsummer, giving the plant a moody, elegant tone. In late spring, domed clusters of small, pale pinkish-white blooms emerge, creating a striking contrast against the dark foliage. Following the flowers, red seed capsules extend the season of interest into late summer. When the leaves drop, exfoliating bark peels away in thin sheets, revealing warm brown layers beneath- adding visual texture and winter character.
